Will Small Businesses Migrate To EMV by October 2015?

‘Small businesses in the US are still not ready to migrate to new EMV (Europay, Master, Visa) standards’, says a recent study commissioned by Intuit, a leading financial management solutions company. The survey conducted by Ebiquity, a data analysis firm, has found out that only a marginal percentage of small companies is aware of the October 2015 deadline of EMV adoption. A total of 504 small to medium business owners were interviewed for the study. What is EMV? EMV is a global standard designed for smart payment cards and POS systems to control fraudulent activities. In EMV smart cards, data is stored in integrated circuit chips instead of using magnetic tapes. EMV chip produces dynamic data for each transaction and that cannot be reused for another transaction. This will ensure more security and make cards less vulnerable to treacherous in-person transactions. Since EMV offers better security measures, it is being adopted all across the world. EMV adoption rate is 99.9% in Europe, 84.7% in Canada and 71.4% in Asia Pacific. However, the adoption rate is only 0.03% in the United States where occurs nearly 50% of the credit card fraud worldwide. Therefore US too has enhanced the migration of smart … Read more

It tracks all apps and searches, and extract all pertinent data from apps, maps, contacts, etc. A search API is also integrated to draw information from third party applications. However, it will not curb the control of the users in looking for content. • Yahoo to shut down its map service by June end

Yahoo made announcement yesterday regarding its plan to shut down Yahoo Map service by the end of June. “The Yahoo Maps site will close at the end of June. However, in the context of Yahoo search and on several other Yahoo properties including Flickr, we will continue to support maps. We made this decision to better align resources to Yahoo’s priorities as our business has evolved since we first launched Yahoo Maps eight years ago,” said Amotz Maimon, Chief Architect at Yahoo in his blog post. This decision has been made as a part of Yahoo’s new strategy to focus on their key product pillars: search, communications and digital content. Experts opine that the withdrawal of Yahoo Maps is to avoid direct competition with the most popular map service, Google Maps. “Part of that focus includes taking a hard look at our existing products and services, and ensuring our resources are spent smartly and with a clear purpose. Ultimately, we want to provide you with the best products, platforms and experiences possible.” says Maimon. Source : Yahoo

He informed that there would not be much changes in the algorithm but the data would be refreshed to a great extent. It might help websites which have been negatively affected by this algorithm. But there is not assurance for a recovery for all sites. There is a possibility of new sites getting hit by this data refresh. “Our goal is to update it more often. It’s not that easy to refresh Panda that often, we have to get our data to do a data refresh. But sometimes the data is noisy or something is wrong with the data, so we have to wait,” said Gary in an interview given to Search Engine Land. Source: Search Engine Land

    • Twitter Launches Periscope, Live Streaming App for Android

Twitter has just launched its video streaming app, periscope on Google’s mobile OS platform, Android. It has already launched the app on iTunes store two months ago. This app will present Android users a unique experience of watching live video broadcast. This app can be downloaded from Google Play Store for users using Android version Kitkat or above. One of the main features of Periscope will be the level of interactivity and flexibility it offers to users. Users can start a public or private video streaming; and can interact with a broadcaster through chat or sharing hearts.                   It also has features that are not present in the iOS version. • Google may launch new photo sharing service at its I/O developers conference

As Google’s annual I/O developer’s conference is about to start in San Francisco, Google is all set to unveil its new photo sharing service which will help users share photos directly through Facebook and Twitter. According to Bloomberg , the new service will not be linked to its social network service, Google Plus. It reinforces the speculation that Google is to separate photo services from Google Plus. The launch of the new service is to woo users who are now mostly using its rival Facebook and its mobile app, Instagram for photo sharing. Google hope that the greater the autonomy of the service, the more is its chance to gain popularity. Another highlight of the conference may be the launch of Android M version. As some reports, Google is expected to give more privacy controls related to apps and permissions in the new version. In addition to Android M, fans also expect an announcement on Android Wear.
