Automattic Acquires WooCommerce – It’s Biggest Buy Ever
Today, the hot topic for all internet buffs is the acquisition of WooCommerce, the most popular WordPress e-commerce plugin by Automattic. Automattic is the business firm behind wordpress.com. Although the price has not been revealed yet, some sources say that it’s their largest buy to date.
According to Matt Mullenweg, the founder of WordPress, this deal is an important step in their entry to e-commerce. It’s quite sure that WooCommerce which already powers 600,000 ecommerce stores will be a great asset for Automattic in its new venture.
“What does this mean for our customers? If you’re using WooThemes products (extensions, themes, or other) your licenses and experience will continue as before and there is no reason to worry. In the coming weeks and months you can expect business as usual from WooThemes, now with the added power of Automattic behind everything we do. For support, continue to reach out to us in the same way you always have done,” says a post from Mark Forrester and Magnus Jepson, the cofounders of WooCommerce.
They add, “Against the backdrop of an ever-changing, innovating and growing eCommerce industry, we are confident this is the right move at the right time and our team is all aboard and excited for the opportunity to create something truly significant.”
